Colourful Sisal Woven Basket M

Subira means Patience in Kiswahili, and baskets in the Subira collection are handmade of finely woven sisal fibre. Each basket displays meticulous artistry, taking one month for a large basket to be handwoven.

The women artisans take fibre from the sisal leaves, and hand-dye the fibre, then roll the fine sisal into twine. The traditional browns, blacks and natural colours are all dyed from bark, leaves, and flowers. The women’s basket weaving cooperatives we buy directly from, paying fair prices to empower them and their families, are located in extremely dry areas in Kenya.
